Princess Yachts focuses on sustainability
Putting sustainability at the heart of its business, Princess Yachts has recently joined MarineShift360, a programme of life cycle analysis of materials and manufacturing processes in the maritime industry.
The boatbuilder has previously achieved ISO 14001, which maps out an effective environmental management system (EMS) enabling companies to reduce their environmental impacts and also supports the Marine Conservation Society.
Princess Yachts’ chief marketing officer, Kiran Haslam, who is also the board member for the environment, said that although the company's ability to influence global environmental issues is small, Princess is a 'standard-bearer for good practice'. “With our high-profile links to many of the world’s leading marine conservation organisations, our motivation and ability to innovate in our manufacturing technologies and processes, and our ambitious target focused on reducing CO2 emissions by over 20% in the next 24 months across the business may set an example to the industry," he said.
Princess is applying its environmental ethos to the design of its luxury yachts, developing efficient hull shapes that deliver up to 30% fuel savings and also extends its environmental targets to marketing events, having banned single-use plastics since 2017 and only serving sustainably caught seafood at all of its international events.
Further examples of Princess Yachts' commitment to sustainability include the company's vacuum-formed hull manufacturing processes that releases fewer odours and toxins into the atmosphere and partnerships with zero-emissions water toy, Seabob, and the world's lightest foldable bicycle manufacturer, Hummingbird.
Closer to home, Princess is custodian of Eddystone Reef in Plymouth Sound and also contributes to the National Marine Aquarium’s Kids Afloat STEM educational programmes as well as funding the installation of the first seagrass bed eco-moorings to be piloted off the south west coast.
