New range from SunPower and Barden
Solar panels are still growing in popularity to keep batteries topped up or for additional power.
Now, American company SunPower is introducing a new range of solar panels that will be distributed in the UK by Barden.
“SunPower is known for manufacturing the cells for solar panels,” explained Phil Smith, Barden technical sales manager. “Quite a lot of the manufacturers we deal with have bought the cells to manufacture their solar panels.”
The new panels will be available in a 50W and 100W module and will have a five-year warranty.
The panels have a solid copper backing that adds strength and means they are almost impervious to corrosion.
With no grid lines on the front of the cells, more sunlight can be absorbed.
The whole underside of the flexible panel is used as the contact area, so if there is a break in the surface, no power is lost, explained Phil.
“Normally users get around 15 or 16% from solar panels,” he said. “With SunPower it’s 23%.
“The panels are very solid and strong and have a textured surface that can be walked on.”
Conventional solar cells lose power over time because of corrosion and breakage, added Phil, however the design of SunPower solar cells eliminates 85% of the reasons conventional cells fail.
An anti-reflective coating has also been incorporated for greater energy.
