2018 will see continued expansion of Crewsaver’s safety equipment range, harnessing the power of Survitec to champion its research and development.

The firm believes it will also be the year when the market develops a deeper understanding of the varying protection levels of safety products.

“Not all lifejackets are the same - the difference could save your life,” says Crewsaver sponsored sailor Ian Walker.

Sales director David Duffin agrees: “We’re in a new era of high-performance sailing; boats are becoming faster and therefore more dangerous, increasing the need for advanced safety equipment. It’s vital users put more time and money into purchasing the correct equipment for their discipline and looking after it through continued servicing and maintenance.”

Correctly fitted

Given that RNLI lifejacket clinics report 30% of lifejackets serviced would not have worked in an emergency and the Maritime & Coastguard Agency says lives could be saved if people wore correctly fitted, well maintained lifejackets, Crewsaver has chosen to spearhead the #LifejacketSafe safety initiative and expand its servicing network.

The business also plans to ensure customers have all the information they need to remain as safe as possible when out on the water.

“Alongside this, raw materials are our top priority as they allow lifejackets to become increasingly lighter and flexible,” adds Mr Duffin. “Our latest highly-breathable fabrics make our buoyancy aids quick to drain and dry and they’re more comfortable when worn for extended periods.

“As kit has become lighter and more air-trapping layers are worn, the design as well as the positioning of the buoyancy in lifejacket bladders has evolved.”
