WesCom Signal and Rescue supports the Ocean Youth Trust South
WesCom Signal and Rescue is to support the Ocean Youth Trust South 30m vessel, Prolific, with emergency pyrotechnic flares.
In support of Ocean Youth Trust South’s work, WesCom Signal and Rescue has donated a full set of Pains Wessex offshore pyrotechnic flares, to ensure Prolific meets safety standards and the charity can continue to give young people life changing experiences on the water.
“A voyage on Prolific is not just about learning to sail, but about developing qualities which matter in everyday life,” explained the charity’s chief executive Mark Todd. “We are not permitted to sail without this safety equipment and are extremely grateful to WesCom for its continued support.”
The charity works with schools and social workers to ensure skills learnt on the water can be transferred into individuals’ long-term development.
Voyages are designed to help develop confidence, understanding of others and how to cope in unfamiliar situations with crew members learning to sail the boat, keep watch and helping to navigate and also learn basic life skills such as cooking and healthy eating.
