Boat dismantling issues
The end of the year seems to be dedicated to boat dismantling issues in Europe with three main events taking place in the last quarter of 2015.
The previous month saw the closing conference for the EU-funded project Boat DIGEST which was held ahead of two other events, under the similar theme, scheduled for November and December.
The event, hosted by European Boating Industry and held in Brussels on 23 September, brought together the project partners, EU representatives and the boating community, as well as other stakeholders and journalists with whom the results and next steps were discussed.
Those include; a regularly updated map showing the various dismantling points available in Europe; the online training programme developed for the staff working at dismantling places; the online awareness training for boat owners; and the guidance materials targeted to various audiences (boaters, marinas, refit companies etc.) and offering information and advice on end-of-life craft related issues.
There are also educational videos and an e-learning platform for owners and dismantlers which can be found on www.boatdigest.eu
The website content will remain available for at least five more years after the project has ended and European Boating Industry will gradually integrate them into its communication activities.
Moreover, there is a full day conference on Future of Yacht Recycling (Amsterdam METS, 16 November) and a three hour event on the latest developments in France for boat and pyrotechnics disposal (Paris Nautic boat show, 8 December).
More about these events can be found in the News section of our website.
