Brunswick enters the rentals market
The growing boating club and rentals market has a meaningful new player, Brunswick, that is likely to cause some significant shifts in the way this market operates, writes James Nolan.
Boating Services Network (previously known as Brunswick Financial Services) has launched OnBoardBoating Club and Rentals - OnBoard - a turnkey business platform enabling marine dealers and marinas to expand their operations and serve the rapidly growing boat club and rental consumer market segments.
The suite of boats, tools and services available through OnBoard will enable club and rental operators to provide members and rental customers with a diverse fleet of newer boats, an easy-to-use online reservation system and incentives for members to become boat owners.
Brunswick has almost 20 boat brands but it is unclear at the time of writing how many will be involved.
The launch of OnBoard follows a successful alliance between Boating Services Network and SuntexMarinas over the past few years. Suntex had ten boat clubs in operation at the time of this announcement.
It will be interesting to see what actions other boat builders take in response to Brunswick’s initiative especially the incentives for members to buy boats. On the surface, it sounds like the perfect opportunity, but there is a potential problem. One of the primary reasons for joining a boating club is to be able to go boating without the costs associated with slips, storage, and maintenance.
