Brunswick's Freedom Boat Club
The recent acquisition of Freedom Boat Club by Brunswick has sent a signal to the industry about Brunswick’s place in the marine space and how it plans to take advantage of the opportunities it creates, writes Jim Nolan.
A recent conversation with Cecil Cohn – president, boating services at Brunswick provided some answers for the near term.
He says that a primary objective for Brunswick and the rest of the industry, is to significantly expand boating participation. He says one way to do this is by providing different ways to participate pointing out the growth in popularity of the sharing economy and shared access markets across all consumer interests and that an essential driver is to provide an easier and memorable consumer experience.
Cecil highlighted the essential role that the Boat Club franchisees provide and the support that Brunswick will give to them. This support could range from helping franchisees attract new members and grow their top line revenues to reducing operating expenses.
Freedom Boat Club provides Brunswick the opportunity to engage in the shared access model that has become very popular with the younger generation. Joining a club gives boaters the opportunity to go boating without having to own a boat – for now.
Cecil strongly believes that as the cooperation and understanding between Brunswick and the franchisees increases, new and as yet unknown win-win opportunities will arise.
