Dura’s new eco-friendly decking
Dura Composites has expanded its decking range to include Dura Desk Resist, a co-extruded board with a 360° outer angle.
The company has also relaunched Dura Deck Eco, that is available in two widths and three colourways and is said to be 60% stronger than similar products.
Dura’s new decking board, Resist, is produced from recycled materials via a co-extrusion process and comes in six colours. It is fire resistant and achieves Bfl-s1 according to BS EN 13501.
Dura Composites’ MD, Stuart Burns, believes that now is the time for developers to focus on reducing costs whilst promoting sustainability.
“With new marina, harbour and waterfront developments often restricted due to geographical limitations and environmental and planning rules, the demand from our customers for flexible decking products has never been greater,” he said.
Stuart explained how a growing environmental conscience was affecting the luxury yacht market: “Illegal logging of the Ipe tree and scandals surrounding yachts built with illegitimate teak from Myanmar have made headlines this year and have made many deck builders wary of using tropical hardwoods for their projects,” he said.
Composite decking used by Dura is a hybrid product made from a mixture of hardwood waste and recycled plastic. Much of this material would otherwise have ended up in landfill.
“Complete transparency needn’t be a problem if you opt for a composite,” concluded Stuart.
