AWARDS: The winners of the 2015 Motor Boat Awards were announced on Monday, January 12 at a gala dinner hosted by Time Inc UK, publisher of Motor Boat & Yachting magazine, at the Landmark Hotel in London.

Sponsored by Pantaenius Sail and Motor Yacht Insurance, an audience of over 250 international guests saw the 2015 Motor Boat Awards presented to winning boats in nine categories ranging from 16 foot starter boats to 140 foot custom yachts. A further eight boats were highly commended by the judges.

The ninth annual ceremony was presented by Motor Boat & Yachting’s editor, Hugo Andreae, and boat test editor, Jack Haines.

A panel of five highly experienced marine journalists were responsible for sea trialling all 57 of the finalists before selecting the winning craft. The international nature of the event was reflected with winners from Scandinavia, Germany, France, Holland, Italy and the UK.

The French built Beneteau Flyer 6 won the ‘Starter Boat’ category, which was described as: “a boat that is truly all things to all people, with three different layout options on a single finely honed hull."

The Finnish built Finnmaster T8 collected top spot in the ‘Performance & Sportsboats’ category thanks to its “sleek, sporty profile and the performance of a thoroughbred racer.”

The ‘Wheelhouse and Cockpit Cruisers’ category was won by Dutch builder Interboat for its new Intercruiser 29, which the judges praised as “equally at home powering through the Solent at 25 knots as pottering on the Thames at 6 knots.”

The Absolute Navetta 58 took the honours in the ‘Trawler Yachts and Aft Cabin’ category, with Hugo Andreae saying: “This is an impressive fusion of flybridge pace with trawler yacht space.”

Norwegian brand Windy collected the award in the ‘Sportscruiser up to 45ft’ category for its Camira 39. The judges commenting: “This boat reminds you just how much fun a proper sportscruiser can be.”

The ‘Sportscruiser over 45ft’ award was, as always, a hard fought category but the winner was the British built Princess V48 Open, described by the judges as “a boat that offers pace, space and grace.”

Now built in Germany, the Sealine F380 took the award for ‘Flybridges up to 55ft’. The judges said: “This is a great family flybridge boat and astonishingly good fun to drive.”

The Plymouth based builder Princess once again scooped the award for the ‘Flybridge over 55ft’ category with its Princess S72. The judges commenting: “The S72 moves the sportsbridge breed on to another level, figuratively and literally.”

The Swedish brand Delta won the prestigious ‘Custom Yacht’ award for its Delta 80. The judges praised this innovative new craft for being “fast, efficient, cool, classy and perfectly in tune with the forward looking owners it is aimed at.”

This year the Outstanding Customer Service Award, sponsored by Garmin, was presented to Clipper Marine, whose customers convinced the judges the Clipper Marine team went above and beyond their call of duty to instil them with confidence when they went to sea in their new boat.

The final award of the night, the Judges’ Special Award, went to Steve and Linda Dashew, the husband and wife team behind the FPB range of ocean crossing motor cruisers.

Simon Owen, publishing director of Time Inc, congratulated the winners, summarising: “These awards are now firmly established as the Blue Riband event of the motor boating year and it’s great for Motor Boat & Yachting to start 2015 by rewarding the very best in international design, innovation and performance in such style.”

The 2015 Motor Boat Awards Pre-Dinner Drinks Reception was sponsored by Intellian while after dinner, guests enjoyed a celebratory drink at the Motor Boat Awards Post Dinner Bar, sponsored by Simrad.
