Arleigh International has acquired marine and industrial distribution company Aquafax for an undisclosed sum.

Aquafax – headquartered in Luton – has a network of six regional depots located around the UK and supplies all sectors of the marine industry, from marine engineers to boatbuilders.

Its product range is also distributed to specialist vehicle builders, coachbuilders and plumbers as well as being supplied into the mobile electricity solutions market and other general industrial applications.

“Our acquisition of Aquafax further enhances our position as the leading marine distribution business in the UK and also strengthens our Speciality Leisure Division,” said Arleigh Group MD Alastair Thomas.

“We will be looking to maximise synergies between Arleigh’s current well established marine businesses - Midland Chandlers and A.S.A.P. Supplies - and Aquafax with immediate effect, whilst respecting the culture and markets which they have so successfully developed over the years.”

He added: “The businesses are all best in class with different skill sets and we are looking to learn from each other and use our huge buying power to best effect.

“We are all looking forwards to getting to know and working with Nigel’s team.”

Former Aquafax owner and current MD, Nigel Pearson, will continue in his current role and says it will be very much business as usual.

“Arleigh is a complementary fit with Aquafax and the acquisition will bring many enhanced business opportunities,” he said. “I’m very excited to be working closer with Alastair and the team at Arleigh, together with the teams at Midland Chandlers and A.S.A.P.”

Nigel joined Aquafax – formerly Midland and Northern – in 1999 as a sales rep. In 2010 he completed an MBO with Andrew Mason and since then has grown the turnover by around 50%.

Arleigh International began trading as in 1969 and will record sales this year of £50m. The Group acquired Marine Mart in 1997, Midland Chandlers in 2006 and A.S.A.P. Supplies in May 2017.
