Group works to promote Gosport
GOSPORT GROUP: A marine business network set up in 2013, Gosport Marine Scene, is working hard to promote growth in the South East town.
Run by Peter Cardy, the network is self funded, but supported by the council and local MP Caroline Dinenage.
Its main aims are to promote Gosport as a marine destination for visiting yacht crews and boats, promote Gosport as a place to base a marine business and link the local marine businesses to the community to help encourage marine trade and jobs.
“Gosport truly has it all,” said Mark Bowden, director at Marina Projects. “We have a deep water, 24 miles of waterfront, over 2,000 berths and moorings, the biggest boat lift out facilities in the Solent, specialists in every aspect of yacht and small vessel service, maintenance and repair.”
There are more than 120 marine businesses on the Peninsula. No other centre on the Solent comes close, he added.
The group has now set up a new responsive website, developed by the Marine Advertising Agency (MAA), listing all local and marine businesses, from sailing clubs to yacht brokers.
“The boating community now gets most of its information digitally,” said MAA managing director, Mike Shepherd. “Using the latest HTML coding we have created a website that does a bigger job than paper directories and is much more versatile than an app.”
Gosport is home for three round the world races: Clipper Ventures, Sail Training International and Global Ocean Race. Toe in the Water, Alex Thomson Racing (IMOCA Hugo Boss) and 5 West also call Gosport home, as do most international racing crews when they visit Britain.
