Landau ‘soapboat’ brings history to life
Landau UK has taken part in the Red Bull Soap Box Race held at Alexandra Palace in London.
From hundreds of applications just 70 were chosen for their unique wackily-wheeled soapbox to take part in the show which will air on Christmas Day.
Swanwick-based Landau UK put forward a proposal to bring history back to life with the ‘soapboat’, a reproduction of Foxtrot 8, a Falklands landing craft currently being restored by Landau as part of the Memorial Fleet project at Boathouse 4 in the dockyard at Portsmouth Naval Base with the addition of 'some craziness, imagination and lots of creativity'.
"Our design is fuelled with creativity, laughter, craziness and some Red Bull," said Sara Boyes, marketing and tender manager. "It’ll be a ‘step back in time machine’."
Landau has form for its wacky renovations: the company previously made a hotdog cardboard boat which won a creativity award at Seawork International 2018.
In addition to the Soap Box Race, Landau UK’s chief executive, Ben Metcalfe and his seven-year-old daughter are taking on a challenge at the end of July to drive from John O’Groats to Lands’ End in a 1955 Land Rover to raise money for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
