The Peters & May Foundation is supporting charity Teen Marine in its endeavours to provide rigid-hulled inflatable boat experiences for vulnerable people using a vessel donated by the Royal Gibraltar Police.

Originally used by smugglers, Hot Fuzz was seized by the Gibraltarian police and repatriated to England where it was refitted before being donated to Teen Marine, a charity formed in 2013 by three Metropolitan police officers.

Peters & May trustee, David Holley, explained why the foundation wanted to support Teen Marine. "It's a great initiative. More than just education, the work carried out at Teen Marine secures the future for vulnerable members of the next generation. When we heard about the plans of Teen Marine, of course we were on board straight away."

Education and safety

Once Hot Fuzz was out of refit, the team started its work with vulnerable youth groups around inner city London. The charity's work is diverse, although always focused on education and safety. Teen Marine's Martyn Potter explained more: "The educational sessions we provide cover a range of topics. One day leaders could be running a session on wildlife at Newtown Creek [on the Isle of Wight], the next, teaching youths about tidal streams and water safety."

The Peters & May Foundation was established in 2018 and has raised more than £7,500 for Teen Marine to help operate and run the RHIB, providing funds for such overheads as insurance, maintenance and training.

Teen Marine has ambitious plans for 2019, hoping to increase volunteer numbers, train more individuals and ultimately increase its capacity to take youngsters out on the water.
