SBS Leather & Lycra and 5-A-Side Football
PSP SBS: The two main evening events this year are Wednesday’s Leather & Lycra, returning for its 5th year, and the new Tuesday 5-A-Side Football event being organised by Mike Shepherd.
Both are charity events – Leather & Lycra is again raising funds for Riders for Health, which provides of motorcycles to enable medicines and treatments to be distributed in hard-to-reach far flung regions of Africa.
Mike Shepherd’s 5-A-Side Football will raise funds for the in aid of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and G4 Surgery at Southampton General Hospital.
Both events are filling up nicely, but both have room for more, of course.
“I think we’ll end up with around 15 riders 25 runners and 30 coming along for the meal and the charity auction,” Andy Sims, the main organiser of Leather & Lycra told BB. “I reckon we’ll have between 70 and 80 people for the auction.”
As last year, Danny John-Jules, aka Red Dwarf’s The Cat, will be riding his pink Yamaha R1 and then leading the auction, for which we have some very desirable items donated.
Entry for Leather & Lycra is £15 a head (bring your own bike), of which £5 goes straight to the charity, while the other £10 gets you the excellent food in the Windward Lounge once the runners and riders are back.
The runners and riders set off at 19.00 from the show on Wednesday 21 September and are scheduled to return to get people eating around 21.30. Changing facilities are available. The riders will have a 90 minute ride and the runners will have the choice of a 5km or 10km run in Southampton.
Mike Shepherd’s Tuesday evening 5-A-Side Football tournament has room for just six more teams. “So far we have confirmed entries from The Marine Ad Agency, Sunseeker, PSP, IPC Media, Bainbridge, Matchtech A, Matchtech B, Moore Blatch, CBG (Carte Blanche Greetings) and PICU Doctors and Technicians.
“We have space for another six teams,” said Mr Shepherd, adding: “The BMF have shown an interest but have not entered quite yet.”
To play in the 5-A-Side Football costs £95.00 a team, which includes a much needed donation to PICU and G4 Surgery. Food is an extra £6.50 per head.
All matches are properly refereed and the event takes place at from 7pm-10pm on Tuesday 20 September 2011 at Goals Soccer Centre, Millbrook Point Road, Southampton, SO15 0JW.
The venue is just two miles from the Southampton Boat Show and easily accessible by public transport and taxi.
