RYA launches Active Marina programme
MARINAS: The RYA has launched its Active Marina Programme to encourage berth holders to make best use of their boat through marina based training workshops, organised cruises and social events in marinas.
MDL's Queen Anne’s Battery marina in Plymouth celebrated joining the programme by offering its berth holders boat handling workshops that included manoeuvring in confined spaces and berthing skills.
“The workshop was a fantastic way to get to know your boat and to learn how boats behave in different circumstances,” said berth holder Keith Harris, who took part in the day.
“Sun, hog roast and boat handling - it doesn't get much better,” said Simon Jinks from SeaRegs Training which ran the sessions along with Plymouth Power boating School. “I really enjoyed giving the boat handling talks.”
There was also a RIB manoeuvring skills challenge for the berth holders, with a prize presented to the best lady and gentleman.
Sovereign Harbour, a Premier Marina in Eastbourne, celebrated its Active Marina Programme launch with a day of practical workshops covering basic manoeuvring and berthing skills as well as electronic navigation sessions for all.
