Safe antifouling initiative to launch
A new safe antifouling initiative is to be launched later this month, intended for professionals and DIYers alike.
The objective of the initiative – from the British Coatings Federation, the Green Blue and the Yacht Harbour Association – is to inform on environmental best practice when antifouling boats.
“This new initiative is intended to raise awareness of environmental issues relating to antifouling amongst the boat-owning community and our UK boatyards and marinas,” said Trevor Fielding, BCF regulatory affairs manager.
“Everyone wants to do the right thing but either they don’t know how and/or they lack the facilities to do so.”
A leaflet has been produced explaining how those applying antifoul can best protect themselves and the environment, especially with regard to collecting paint debris and disposing of waste.
A weather resistant poster is also available for display in chandlers, marinas and boatyards.
The Green Blue is a joint initiative between the RYA and British Marine.
