Boating Leisure Services chooses the new Bow Pro thruster from Vetus
Vetus launched its Bow Pro series of thrusters earlier this year and has already seen much interest in the inland waterways market.
The thrusters are AC and brushless making them suitable to be run for as long as the battery pack will last, ideal for charter boats, explained Stephen Baker, Vetus UK general manager.
“Thrusters are used a lot in the inland waterways market and we’re seeing a lot of interest in the Bow Pro series,” he said. “A DC bow thruster can only be run for a limited amount of time due to heat build-up. DC motors have carbon brushes which wear and produce black dust that trips the thermal cut out however the Bow Pro is AC so there are no brushes or carbon dust.”
He added: “Manoeuvring a vessel is simplified through accurate proportional control of the thrusters.”
Heat generated by the thruster is dissipated by a large heat sink and the smart motor controller automatically balances power supplied and heat generation.
The thrusters are suitable for retrofitting with the motor fitting most Vetus version C and D tailpieces and are suitable for both 12V and 24V input.
A standard control panel offers proportional control of the thruster and the high-end joystick also features a lock-function.
The series initially consists of seven models with higher output models due to be launched during 2018.
The first thrusters have already been delivered to Boating Leisure Services that will be showing a boat at Crick fitted with the new products.
