Engineering for the Sea (EFS) has developed a new swivel for its Mara Buoy Static that is easy to inspect and service.

“On a traditional mooring system, there is a swivel that’s normally under the water,” explained Mara Buoy’s George Smith.

“This is a new kind of swivel that is inserted into the mooring line of the Mara Buoy Static so all the swivel action happens above the water.”

“With a traditional kind of swivel, steel moves on steel and corrodes and wears out very quickly. It’s also not serviceable.

“A swivel is a critical item – if the mooring fails, the boat ends up on the beach which can be catastrophic.”

And Mr Smith explained that all the components in the Mara EFS swivel can be replaced making it 100% serviceable.

The wear surface and bearings are polymer meaning there is no steel moving on steel.

“It’s a huge improvement,” said Mr Smith.

The swivel will be available in the Spring.
