Edinburgh Marina development boosts jobs
More than 400 permanent new jobs for locals will be created by Edinburgh Marina’s phase one development.
The first phase of the GB£500m waterside development, to be operated by Camper & Nicholsons Marinas, includes the new marina and hotel. In 2016, 300 new jobs were estimated to be generated in phase one by the City of Edinburgh Council.
Speaking about what will be the only fully accessible 24/7 marina in the area, Dan Hughes, chief operating officer of Camper & Nicholsons Marinas, said: “There is no doubt that the marina brings economic benefits to the area, not only through direct employment, but also in the spin-off / secondary employment which will blossom; we have seen it happen many times before.”
Mr Hughes said Camper & Nicholsons Marinas intend to offer jobs only to local candidates and train them in some of its existing marina locations.
A spokesman for the developer stated: “We are very pleased that we can deliver such a significant number of new permanent jobs at all levels from apprentices through to senior management.”
The percentage of affordable homes that will be delivered throughout the scheme is also in excess of original expectations and will assist with Edinburgh’s need for accommodation.
