Marina works are on schedule
Refurbishment of Southampton’s Ocean Village Marina is expected to be completed on schedule this summer.
The refurbishment and extension by Walcon Marine has so far seen Piers A to D completed and in use.
Three more piers are still to be finished with work now taking place on Pier E.
The walkways, piers and pontoons have been constructed using Walcon’s System 21 product.
Walcon’s heavy-duty, wave-attenuating Waliflote pontoons have been used near the marina entrance to provide protection from excess wash and wave action when the wind is from the south-east. For the decking, marina operator MDL has specified a composite format.
Walcon has been involved from the outset in the design of the new layout before manufacturing the new pontoons and removing the old infrastructure.
Extractions and driving
This is being replaced in a phased programme running alongside the installation of the new units. The Walcon Wizard barge is undertaking all the necessary piling extractions and driving.
The project also includes the construction of a new platinum pier, Pier P, for higher paying berth holders.
The design features high-spec pontoons with underdeck services rather than pedestals, branded cleats and smart services using keypads and mobiles.
