Oceanair’s Andy FitzGerald retires
Oceanair Marine founder and MD, Andy FitzGerald, has retired after 28 years at the helm of the business.
Andy started the Chichester-based business in 1990 from his garage, building it up to a global enterprise that supplies blinds, shades, screens and soft furnishings and employs more than 200 staff globally.
“Andy leaves behind an enviable legacy," said group human resources director Donna Wearn. "He has worked tirelessly to create a company that employees are proud to work for and made us an Employer of Choice.
“His contribution to the local community has been wide ranging and well received. We wish him all the best with his retirement and his future endeavors. He will be greatly missed.”
Andy has long had an interest in the marine sector, having gained a HND in Yacht and Boatyard management in 1980, after which he worked in marinas, boat repair and boatbuilding - in wood, GRP, steel and aluminium - as a yacht salesman and equipment manufacturer.
In 2010 a new residential and commercial division of Oceanair was successfully launched, while in 2016 the business was acquired by Dometic Group.
Today, Oceanair has a manufacture and distribution centre in the US, alongside its UK design and manufacturing facility in Selsey.
The company has three Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in International trade, while in January this year Andy gained Boating Business’ ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the British Marine Trade Association Awards.
