CXO300 is suitable for superyacht tenders
Cox Powertrain is undertaking final stage testing of its 300hp CXO300 outboard diesel.
One of the markets that the CXO300 is aimed at is superyacht tenders, where users require outboards that offer the same high-performance characteristics as inboard engines, but with the flexibility and convenience of an outboard diesel engine.
“The CXO300‘s higher torque means high-performance hulls can reach low planning speeds at less rpm than petrol equivalents,” said Cox’s global sales director Joel Reid. “The longer service intervals and greater range of a diesel outboard will also be very attractive, however many superyacht owners will see the main advantage as being able to ditch petrol altogether, for the obvious safety and practical reasons.”
The eight-cylinder CXO300 is available in black or white and comes in three different shaft lengths; 25in (635mm), 30in (762mm) and 35in (889mm). Operating at 480ft per lb torque, it offers an engine prepping speed of 3,700 to 4,000rpm with the company claiming it uses 25% less fuel than other equivalent engines.
Production of the CXO300 is expected to start this autumn, with the first engines scheduled for delivery before the end of 2019.
