Water toys challenge privacy
Superyacht supplier, Global Services, says that while water toys are the ‘must have’ item for this year’s Mediterranean summer season, they do create privacy issues.
Marketing co-ordinator Alex Smith comments: “A key aim for owners and charter guests is to have the most memorable season possible so they love to have the latest and greatest toys on board to ensure maximum fun. These toys can range from jet skis and inflatables to underwater scooters, known as SEABOBS and drones.”
The rapid development of technology however, brings with it a new set of challenges. With drones for example, there have been advances over the years in drone endurance, range and payload and commentators predict by 2020 there will be 12 million in operation.
Alex continues: “This growth in drone popularity inevitably creates security and privacy issues for superyacht owners and we are increasingly asked to source and deliver anti-drone equipment.”
Moving onto the next level, underwater drones are now becoming the ‘toy’ of choice. Alex concedes: They give users a whole new perspective on their surrounding environment, enabling them to ‘capture the moment’, but equally, like other drones, they can invade the privacy of others.”
Such invasions of privacy appear to do little to stop owners from enjoying their superyachts; similar to other businesses in this sector, Global Services reports business is booming globally and particularly ‘manic’ at this time when yachts are ordering everything they need for the next three to four months when they have guests and owners onboard.
